Hysteroscopy

Hysteroscopy

It is the study of the inside of the cervix and uterus using a thin and flexible tube called a Hysteroscope. It is mainly done to take a tissue sample, remove fibroid tumours or prevent bleeding. The process may have local or no anesthesia however for more complex procedures, hysteroscopy can be done in an operating room by administering local, regional, or general anesthesia. A patient may need this procedure when there is abnormal uterine bleeding taking place or when one needs to diagnose the cause of infertility and repeated miscarriage. There are alternatives to this procedure such as Pelvic Ultrasound or Endometrial Biopsy but these may not provide as much information and can’t be used to treat the problems in the way hysteroscopy does.
